Position Overview: Molecular Templates is seeking a highly skilled and highly motivated professional to perform payroll activities. The Payroll Administrator will be responsible for processing payroll in accordance with company, federal and state pay policies. This includes processing employee-initiated changes related to payroll, maintain records for vacation/holiday/sick leave and worker's compensation. The position requires an in-depth understanding of full cycle payroll processing. This requires problem solving skills, general accounting skills and knowledge, analytical and mathematical skills, organizational and time-management skills, verbal and written communication skills, plus ability to apply attention to detail and manage competing priorities. Job Responsibilities will include: Ensure the processing of new hires, temporary workers, transfers, promotions and terminations are accurate and timely Maintain employee records inclusive of but not limited to status changes, tax documents, tax changes, deductions, payment information, vacation/holiday, sick leave, worker's compensation records Critically review and analyze current payroll, benefits and tax procedures in order to recommend and implement changes leading to best-practice operations Audit employee pay records and reconciles totals by department and pay groups Comply with company, federal and state pay policies and deadlines, accounting rules and manage payroll inquiries from employees and Federal/State agencies Determine payroll liabilities by reviewing and/or approving/performing the calculation of employee wages and related payroll taxes Writing and updating payroll policies and procedures and advising management on needed actions Partner with HR in aligning and implementing policy and procedures Manage regular preparation of relevant management reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.) and perform adhoc reporting Oversee internal and external payroll audits on as needed basis Stock plan administrator maintain stock database, process stock option grants, option/share reporting, employee exercise of options, adhoc reporting and analysis Other duties and special projects, as assigned Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from accredited institution in Accounting or related field required Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in full cycle payroll functions Experience processing multi-state payroll (international a plus) Experience with payroll tax at the federal, state and local levels Experience with Stock plan administration, a plus Prior system conversion experience, a plus Experience with process improvements Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving skills Excellent organizational, multi-tasking skills, time management (priorities and deadlines) Proficient at Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and Adobe Acrobat Ability to perform wage and payroll tax calculations Ability to reconcile federal/state agency quarterly and annual reports (e.g. F940 and F941) Ability to maintain highest standards of accuracy and attention to detail Must be a team player and able to function independently and exercise good judgement Ability to work well under pressure and capable of meeting rapid, frequent deadlines Reporting Structure: This position currently has no supervisory responsibilities.
